Space Forum Explores Asteroid Mining

The Space Forum, a conference was organized between 15-16 May 2017 at the European Convention Center in Luxembourg. The second edition of the event was focused on Space Communications, Space Exploration, Space Mining and Planetary Defense. The event saw more than 500 delegates attend close to fifty talks on varied topics.

The speakers and delegates at the conference came from a host of companies such as ArianeSpace, LuxGovSat, NASA Ames, Skolkovo Aerospace, Galaktika, NVIDIA, Iranian Space Agency, Earth lab, Planetary Resources, Thales Alenia Space and Space Angels Network. Some startups and space organizations had also established stalls at the event to demonstrate their offerings before the public.

Some of the interesting talks delivered at the conference were about

  • How to use Artificial Intelligence in mapping asteroids and hunting for aliens.
  • Startup Insights from Space focused companies.
  • The Current state of Planetary Defense.
  • The Future of Space Flight.
  • What next in Space Exploration.
  • Industrial robotic workforce based on the use of Solar Energy.

The Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister announced the setting up of a dedicated competition for space exploration called the Space Exploration masters. Applications to take part in the competition are open until the 8th September 2017.

The program is supported by ESA’s Business Incubation Center’s. Startups that qualify stand to receive business support of up to € 500,000.
